1st Grade Team

1st Grade Team

We are looking forward to an exciting year at First Grade.  From left to right:  Mrs. Gee (E-6), Mrs. Keyes (E-1), Mrs. Saad (E-2) and Mrs. Yan (E-5)

our first field trip

Our first field trip will be a visit to the Dougherty Station Library.  Please look inside your child's LO folder for important details, including the date and time for each class trip.

All parents who have been cleared through our Be A Mentor system are welcome to join us as chaperones!

Reading homework begins

First graders will be bringing home a new book every day (Mon - Thurs).  It is a leveled book, at their reading level.

Please take the time to discuss the story together, using the Book Talk questions as a guide.

Be sure to return the book inside the clear folder the following day in order to receive another leveled book.

Detailed directions can be found under the homework section.

Thank you for your support!

Live Oak PTA Breakfast book club - fall

Come join Live Oak PTA's Breakfast Book Club!  Students signed up to participate will read three books and attend all three club meetings.  Books will be selected by our very own librarian, Mrs. Tatum.  Questions and discussions will be led by parent volunteers.  If your first grader would like to participate, please sign up using the link below.

Conversation Starters

Each week we will introduce a question that you may want to discuss as a family. These conversation starters create an opportunity to learn more about each other.

If you could make 3 family rules, what would they be?

First Grade Life Skill

red shoes

We strongly encourage your children to learn to tie their shoes by themselves. This important skill encourages independence, dexterity and brain development. It also helps teachers prevent back pain from constantly bending over! Take a look at this fun video with your child!

Important Reminders

Please keep in mind that field trip drivers change all the time.  You can come off this list for expired driver’s license, insurance policy or tickets. Check to make sure everything is up to date!
Soul Shoppe

Soul Shoppe teaches students important skills that support them academically and socially through life. This interactive program focuses on problem solving, conflict resolution, and creating a community of respect and growth. We've attended our second workshop. The children really enjoy learning empathy, how to express their feelings and using problem-solving tools in social situations.
