Keeping Connected ...

1st Grade Team

Thanksgiving Break

There's no school the week of November 19th.

Have a wonderful Thanksgiving break!

Conversation Starters

Each week we will introduce a question that you may want to discuss as a family. These conversation starters create an opportunity to learn more about each other.

If you could be a grown up for a day, what would you do first?

Moon Journal

In our Earth Science unit in October, we will be studying the phases of the moon.  Please encourage your child to go outside and find the moon every evening!

On the 'Moon Journal,' students draw what they see in the sky and write the date. If they miss a night or if it is too overcast to see, no worries! This may be kept at home and does not need to return to school. I hope this activity is fun for you and your child! A moon journal was sent home or you can download one here.

First Grade Life Skill

Sometimes it's easier for parents to do all of the housekeeping themselves. It's a missed opportunity for us to teach our kids how to keep the house clean, which they'll eventually need to know. You can start with age-appropriate chore charts that include learning how to make the bed, empty the dishwasher and dust. Also, think of the daily messes your kids make and how they can clean up after themselves.

Box Tops

Save your Box Tops for Education to earn money for Live Oak.

Each box top is worth 10 cents for the school!

Please keep in mind that field trip drivers change all the time.  You can come off this list for expired driver’s license, insurance policy or tickets. Check to make sure everything is up to date!

Soul Shoppe

Soul Shoppe teaches students important skills that support them academically and socially through life. This interactive program focuses on problem solving, conflict resolution, and creating a community of respect and growth. We've attended our second workshop. The children really enjoy learning empathy, how to express their feelings and using problem-solving tools in social situations.
